Take a Ride with Equus

I loved Equus! The sparse set was incredible, spurred on with amazing lighting and very cool costuming for the "horses." Richard Griffiths lead the charge, but it was Daniel Radcliff who was the fearless rider. The production and the play are terribly interesting - a real psycho-thriller. I was bracing my for weirdness, but I was pleasantly surprised and overwhelmed by a very deep and beautiful, even humorous at times, story. I was even frightened. We had rear center mezzanine seats and I never had any hearing issues. Before the show, we were waiting to cross 44th Street when I realized that Marian Seldes was waiting next to us. She told me that she had also been to the dress rehearsal and proclaimed the production as "marvelous." She was in the original production. I also saw Kathleen Turner, Glenn Close, Dominic Cooper Judith Light, Lili Taylor, Doug Wright, George Segal, Blair Brown and that designer Austin Scarlett, who seemed to have confused Opening Night with Costume Party since he was dressed in jodpurs and high riding boots. We learned about him from the inimitable Opera Chic.

(Notice Marian going into the stage door and Daniel Radcliff is right behind her. I also saw the dude in the white head thing at the Cubs/Mets game on Tuesday night.)

Yes, indeed. That picture of Marian is wonderful.

Your mom is getting quite the NYC experience, isn't she??

Marian, Marian Seldes!

Given how she was in the original Broadway production, I'd love to know what she thought of the revival!
