Quote of the Day

"Leave 'em wanting more, baby!"

Mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, in "The Diva's Future: Susan Graham Is at the Top, But Where Else To Go?" by Zachary Woolfe for the New York Observer

Absolutely, and we do want more, baby!    Susan will be performing in Iphigenie en Tauride at the Met Opera from February 12 to March 5th and much to our delight although not for an entire year from now, in recital with Malcolm Martineau at Carnegie Hall on February 1, 2012.

You have tix? Lucky Girl! I saw Graham in Iphigenie at SFOpera several years ago; it is sublime (although not everyone loves Gluck), and she is sublime in it. As an added bonus, Paul Groves is superb in this opera, also. Should you end up loving it, there is a lovely recording from the 2000 Salzberg Festival with both Groves and Graham.

Hey Sibyl - I don't have tix for Iphigenie yet, as I'm not sure I'm going - I saw it the last go around. I don't like the production but may not be able to live without hearing her voice (I wish PD wasn't in it). I might go down to HGO to hear her composer in Ariadne. Tix for her Carnegie recital are on the top of my list and nothing will keep me from that next year.

We were lucky to have an absolutely stunning production to go with the amazing cast, so for once I guess I don't need to be envious of all you New York types. I totally understand why you'd be dubious about PD in the cast. Well, one can always attend the simulcast and munch popcorn loudly through anything aurally offensive....
