Today, my playlists include Grey Gardens because I'm anticipating being at the first preview on October 3rd; The Best of Everything But the Girl because I I was reminded of my first trip to London; Counting Crows' August and Everything After because it reminds me of an old friend in San Antonio; The Cure's Greatest Hits because twice this week references to The Cure came up in conversation; Ella Fitzgerald's Gershwin Songbook because Ella is ALWAYS on my playlist; Susan Graham's "La Belle Époque (The Songs of Reynaldo Hahn)" because I'm hoping to see her in Iphegenie at the Chicago Lyric at the end of September; Audra McDonald's "How Glory Goes" because I just love her voice; and Nanci Griffith's "Flyer" because she takes me home to Austin when I need a little visit. Yeah, I know, I'm all over the place. I'm just a person who has to have music constantly playing...and I'm all about lyrics before I am about melody. Broadwayworld decided to ask some of our Broadway friends what they are listening to - they're just a little eclectic too. So, what's on your playlist?
"The theatre can do things that you can't legislate, or preach, or make laws about. The theatre can do this thing of getting in, into your heart." ~George Hearn, Words and Music by Jerry Herman
