Today: A Concert at Carnegie and then a Prize Extravaganza

Today we're using the last ticket we purchased back in September for an afternoon with the Met Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. We only included it in our season ticket scramble to so we could hear soprano Natalie Dessay. Alas, she has cancelled due to bronchitis. So, we'll hear mezzo-sopranoMichelle DeYoung. I never heard of her, but what the hell, I love mezzos and the ticket was paid for months ago. Update: Oh, it was okay. We stayed for the first act only - oh how decadent we are - and then cut our losses and headed for Seppi's for afternoon cocktails and French fries.

After we descend from the heavens of the balcony at Carnegie Hall, I'll take in the scene next door at Russian Tea Room, as Broadway stars come and go at the Drama Desks Pre-Awards Ceremony. The Drama Desk Awards is to the Tony Awards what the Golden Globes are to the Oscars. I will try to keep in mind what a certain diva said: "It's not about prizes."

Update: I met up with Hugh at 7:30 at the Tea Room and then we headed up to Laguardia High School to watch the arrivals there on the red carpet. I had a blast being his assistant in pointing and naming the celebrities. Excellent pictures to be provided soon by Hughe.
