Quote of the Day

Susan Graham has been on the Iphigenie Tour since last year so by the time she brings it to the Met, I know that gold ceiling will catch fire! Of course, we have our tickets. In yesterday's London Times, she said, “I came from cowboys, but I was raised to believe I could do anything I wanted to do. When I said I wanted to be an opera singer my parents looked at me like I said I wanted to be an alien mud wrestler on Mars, but they didn’t see any reason why I shouldn’t be able to try it.”
The author notes, "Very little about Graham is froufrou. She’s quick to correct my labelling her a Southerner (she was born in Roswell, New Mexico, later moving to Midland, Texas). 'Southwesterner – it’s different. It’s cowboys versus southern belles.' And Graham comes from proper rancher stock. 'We’re talking about a certain kind of ruggedness, and a pioneer spirit. My grandfathers really were cowboys – that’s something I’m very proud of.'"

Is there any wonder she's my favorite mezzo and home town girl?

Me too. Iphigenie is intense, but she is just amazing.
