Tonight: Finally Back at the Met for Madama Butterfly

Madama Butterfly
Monday, October 8, 2007, 8:00 pm - 11:20 pm
Conductor: Mark Elder
Cio-Cio-San: Patricia Racette
Suzuki: Maria Zifchak
Pinkerton: Roberto Alagna
Sharpless: Luca Salsi

I don't know how it was possible to love this production even more than the three times I saw it last season (open house dress rehearsal, big screen on the Plaza, and once in the house), but Patricia Racette's flawless voice and even better acting gave this production what it really needed and now it is beyond perfection. What a fun evening - from dinner with a gang of opera toughs, to reclaiming our perch above the dining room where we love watching (and learning from) Mercedes Bass, to settling in our home for the season under the Gold Heaven, to catching Lois Kirschenbaum monitoring the Yankees' game in the ladies' room, to swooning over the perfection from Racette, Alagna, et al. Ahhh, perfect.
