Tonight: The Homecoming runs through for BC/EFA

Over the last 19 years, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) has contributed more than $74 million (in hard cash) to AIDS and family service organizations, as well as to individuals throughout the United States. BC/EFA also contributes to other efforts including the AIDS Initiative, the Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative, the Al Hirschfield Free Health Clinic, the Actors' Work Program, and the Affordable Housing Initiative. They work with Broadway Barks in fund raising efforts for no-kill animal shelters. BC/EFA also contributes to relief funds for natural disasters, such as Katrina. Throughout each season, fund raising efforts include additional performances by Broadway shows in which the ticket income is designated for BC/EFA. Casts of each also contribute by collecting cash after shows by holding out buckets, selling show memorabilia and even posing for pictures. A number of special events, including concerts, the flea market, comedy shows, auctions, etc., are held to raise money. Unfortunately another casualty of the stagehands strike is BC/EFA. For every week of lost performances, BC/EFA is losing approximately $350,000. Why care? I care because I have friends who work in show business. I care because there are approximately 50 million Americans who have AIDS and they do not have health insurance. I care because my friend Craig died from AIDS. I care because this isn't just about AIDS. If you care, please consider donating directly to BC/EFA by clicking here. Any amount helps.

Tonight, the cast of The Homecoming is doing their part to contribute by performing a free run-through of a rehearsal.. Because of the strike, the preview period of this revival has been delayed. However, rehearsals have continued. The run-through will take place at New World Stages on 50th Street, between 8th & 9th Avenues. 300 tickets will be handed out at 6:00 p.m. Following the run-through, the cast will pass the bucket for contributions to BC/EFA. I will be there in support of BC/EFA and in support of my friend Noah Himmelstein who is working on the production team of this revival.
