Big Dame Joan and Dainty Lily

Lily Pons and Dame Joan Sutherland both sang Marie in the Met's La Fille du Regiment.

Dame Joan was a bit on the horsey side, wasn't she? Reminds me of seeing the coronation gown of Tsarina Elizabeth in the Armory Museum at the Kremlin in Moscow. The tour guide commented, "She vas big girl, no?"
