Gonzalez Cantata at the Philly Fringe

One of the shows in the 2009 Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe is getting some national attention from MSNBC's Rachel Maddow : The Gonzalez Cantata. By Melissa Dunphy, it's running this weekend only at the Rotunda on Walnut Street. Tickets are available here.

The Gonzalez Cantata is based on the 2007 Senate Judiciary Committee Hearings in which U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez allegedly perjured himself. The libretto comes directly from the hearing transcripts. Because only one woman, Senator Diane Feinstein, sat on the Senate Judiciary Committee during that time, Dunphy has switched the roles, i.e. the men are sung by sopranos and Feinstein is a sung by a male tenor.

The finale is strangely beautiful:

Wow, what an interesting subject for a musical composition.
