Quote of the Day
"Right now, we've got a wonderful soprano who's got a voice that would melt marble."
Rolf Harris in his introduction of La Diva Renée Fleming at the Queen's Jubilee Concert, Buckingham Palace, June 4, 2012.
Renée was one of the few Americans to take place in the concert which was attended by around 1 million people and watched and listened to by multiples of that number. I, myself, listened to most of the live concert in my office via BBC 2 radio.
The concert was filmed and broadcast on ABC last night and that awaits my viewing pleasure on my DiVaR. The line-up featured a variety of stars, including Dame Shirley Bassey, Sir Tom Jones, Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, Kylie Minogue, among many fabulous others. In fact, Renée was immediately followed by Sir Tom Jones (did she resist throwing her knickers at him?) and then Dame Shirley Bassey.
I cannot even imagine how thrilling it must have been to be at the concert, much less performing at it. I am beyond thrilled for Renée. She tweeted on Monday: "Backstage at the Queen's Jubilee Concert- Dizzying- too many stars to count, audience over the moon, cheering for joy- I won't forget this!" My head spins just thinking about it!
Renée also sang "Somewhere" with British musical theatre star Alfie Boe FROM a BALCONY of BUCKINGHAM PALACE. Unreal!
And the finale, which is out of this world! Hip hip hooray, indeed. Brava, England! Brava, Queen Elizabeth!
