Another Gypsy in the Mail

Another Gypsy was waiting in my mailbox last night. Once again, there was no need to market to me and the discount is lost because of course, I already have my tickets. But still, isn't it some sort of good charma for this upcoming Gypsy that I just happened to take note of two previous productions this very week? Last summer, we pilgrimaged to Ravinia to see Patti Lupone take a turn in a three night semi-staged concert version of Gypsy. She didn't do quite what we expected with the pinnacle role of Rose but she's Patti, so by the third night we were satisfied. I have a feeling that this summer, we'll get more than satisfaction.

I'm planning to go. This sounds like something that's simply not to be missed and it coincides perfectly with my next trip to New York. So I'm obviously "meant" to go see it. It'll be my first "live" Gypsy. I've only seen the 1993 version with Bette Midler on DVD. And I've never seen Patti LuPone on stage. I'm psyched for a pretty incredible experience!

Ok, I'm trying to figure out where to sit. I've never been to City Center. I called the box office, and I can take either center orchestra row B or grand tier row C. Which do you thnk is better? Thanks.

The site lines in City Center are HORRIBLE. If you're at the front of the grand tier, you're better off than toward the back of the orchestra. It's an enormous hall.

Isn't Row B close to the front of the orchestra, though?

of course - I was thinking "center" orchestra. Uh, the orchestra is huge and is split into sections. Row B is probably great.

Thanks for your help Sarah. I'm really looking forward to seeing this!

My experience at Ravinia echoes your amazing experience with Bernadette in Gypsy. New friends were made and a weekend of unforgettable memories for formed. City Center has a LOT of expectations to surmount.

Indeed, Bob, the whole experience at Ravinia is unmatched - it was so perfect picnicing on that beautiful lawn with new and old friends - everybody coming together because of their love for musical theatre and divas. Kari and I were just talking about this the other day. What a wonderful memory.

Got my ticket today, Row B. I can't believe it, I'm going to see Patti LuPone in Gypsy!
